Married At First Sight UK gets explosive revamp with fresh new format for 2021

Married At First Sight UK bosses have announced that the hit E4 show is getting a fresh revamp for its 2021 series.

The show - which first launched in 2015 in Australia - sees desperate daters agree to wed a total stranger picked by experts.

The participants must all agree to marry the person they are matched with, but they're not just thrown together out of the blue ahead of their legally binding marriage.

They are carefully access by a team of expert match-makers in the fields of psychology, social and evolutionary anthropology and theology.

But bosses have announced that a brand new format is going to be replacing the old one as the show returns in 2021.

Taking inspiration from the hugely successful Australian version that gripped British viewers this summer, execs vowed that the new UK the series will be a bigger, more explosive take on the format.

The new series will follow the fresh batch of singles who meet their matches for the very first time at the altar.

Following the Australian format, rather than legal marriages, the couples will make a lifelong commitment to one another at a glamorous ceremony, overseen by a wedding celebrant, that includes guests, bridal gowns, dancing, speeches and cake.

After the ceremony and celebrations are over, true love is well and truly put to the test.

The couple will embark on a luxurious honeymoon, before moving in with each other as well as their fellow couples.

The new format will see all relationships be put under the microscope, by fellow brides and grooms at weekly dinner parties – as well as by the experts.

Fans will get to see how relationships develop at recurring commitment ceremonies, where couples choose whether they want to stay in or leave the process.

Commissioning Editor of Factual Entertainment, Lee McMurray, said: “I’m thrilled to be refreshing one of the portfolio’s most popular brands for E4, bringing extra scale and ambition to what is already one of the most audacious and provocative experiments on television, and delivering what we hope will be the most exciting series yet.”
