Married At First Sight's Thomas quits the show and marriage leaving fans 'devastated'

Fans of E4's Married At First Sight UK were in a state of shock on Tuesday evening after Thomas ended his marriage to husband Adrian and subsequently quit the show.

As the pair attended the final dinner party in the episode, Liverpudlian Thomas broke down in tears and admitted he found it 'tough' witnessing the other couples in love.

His decision came following a turbulent few weeks that saw troubles during homestay, which left Thomas initially opting to leave the experiment at the previous commitment ceremony which aired last week.

Addressing the group the teary scouser said: "I'm looking round the table and seeing how happy everyone is and I just don't feel like that.

"We're not in love and it sucks really."

The couple then headed outside for some alone time where Thomas told Adrian: "You mean the world to me - just because we love each other doesn't mean we are supposed to be together."

Adrian responded: "Whenever you've felt vulnerable, I needed you to know that someone was there. I wanted you to know that someone would stick through and that someone would care and protect you."

Thomas, trying to comfort his husband, said: "Don't you think I feel all of them things? What I have taken away from this is someone that is so important and that is you. You are my rock."

Following their chat the pair revealed the news to the other couples, with Adrian stating: "I would like to make a bit of an announcement that me and Thomas have had a chat and after making a phenomenal journey and coming from hell on earth with this chap and coming to the most amazing place where I actually adore this man and everything about him, we have decided that we will not be making it to final vows, and we will be bowing out gracefully."

Thomas added: "And with the most beautiful man that I would never have asked for anything more in this experience. We're going to be best friends forever but not husbands forever."

An emotional Adrian revealed news of the split to the rest of the couples (channel 4)

Hundreds of viewers took to Twitter after the show to declare their sadness at the split, meanwhile, with one user writing: "What an authentically beautiful, respectful and honest breakup of Adrian and Thomas. Sat blubbing watching it. Two good & genuine people who I wish nothing but the best for #MAFS #MAFSUK."

Another commented: "Adrian breaking down in tears got me. I respect him & Thomas for having a difficult chat and being honest with each other. It was tough but seeing them go separate ways to respect each other’s needs was touching. Their souls were meant to cross and their bond is beautiful."

A third added: "Oh Thomas and Adrian. There is so much love there - it's just not romantic. I hope they stay friends."

And a fourth said: "Devastated for Adrian and Thomas. So sad to see them go like this. #MAFSUK".
