Married at First Sight Australia was back on screens Monday night as the fourth commitment ceremony got underway, officially marking over the halfway point of the reality experiment.
Fans were shocked as Dan and Sandy decided to leave the Channel 4 reality show having previously been branded as one of the strongest couples.
There was trouble in paradise for the couple as Dan Hunjas, 42, previously admitted he wasn't sexually attracted to his wife Sandy, and things went from bad to worse following the shock confession on the couch.
Sandy Jawanda, 36, opened up on the pair finally having sex despite their intimacy issues and said that Dan "completely backed off" from his wife after they slept together.
Dan also lied to his wife about being out with his fellow grooms, after texting Sandy to ask for some "personal space" for a few days as he was spending time with his daughter, only to be found down the local pub.
He went on to claim that the couple have a lack of compatibility over their lifestyle choices, which has been his ongoing argument for pulling away due to his love of the 'ocean' and outdoors which he says drives them apart.
Dan quipped: "I was thinking a lot about the lifestyle differences we had, things we can't ignore one of the big things for me is the love of the beach and the ocean - I'm at the beach before sunrise and those times I am on my own I want someone to share that with that has weighed very heavy on my heart because it's a true love of mine and is a big thing for me to share that with me."
"You put your noise cancelling earphones on and go to bed," Sandy corrected him.
Expert John Aiken added: "Dan a key ingredient to a healthy relationship is not the love of an ocean, like values and communication styles, time together versus time apart."
Revealing that he wanted to leave, Dan said: "I came here with an expectation that I was going to find someone that can join me in the love of the ocean and adventure and unfortunately it was different to that and it started to unravel for me this week.
"I feel this has been more of a friendship we have been building so the best thing for me to do is leave, the ocean is calling me I have to go home."
Sandy also opted to leave, saying she deserves better.
And it wasn't just the group, experts and Sandy who thought Dan's excuse for the breakdown of their relationship was ridiculous, as fans took to social media to vent their fury and almost laughed at his pathetic justifications.
"'The beach and the ocean is calling me and I have to go home' Dan is actually violating what a loser #MAFSAU," said one fan.
Another penned: "Watching Alessandra tear Dan a new one on that sofa tonight was STUUUUUNING. #MAFSAU," whilst some else wrote: "man really said 'the ocean is calling me' #MAFSAU."
One tweeted: "Glad that Sandy said Leave - Dan can f**** himself and the ocean. I feel like Sandy can become a spokeswoman for women of her community or something. She comes out of this well, Dan not so much #MAFSAU."
Another fan of the show said: "I feel sorry for Sandy she went against her family for this nonsense bless her. I really hope Sandy gets everything she is looking for and deserves. #MAFSAU."
