Married at First Sight Australia: 'Penultimate' commitment ceremony sees one marriage end in tears

As the final vows loom just around the corner it's beginning to get very real for the remaining couples on Married at First Sight Australia, but not without time to cram in some bombshells.

Monday night's episode brought the 'penultimate' commitment ceremony, and although we saw some strong marriages forming as they look ahead into the future, it was a rocky session on the couch for some of the couples with one leaving the experiment in tears which shocked the entire group.

We previously reported how marriage celebrant Jesse, 30, and his wife Claire, 31, were thrown into crisis in their marriage following a cheating scandal when nursery teacher Claire kissed another groom.

But the couple managed to turn things around as Claire vowed to prove to her husband that "mistakes can be amended" and the couple could come back from the heartbreaking turn of events which left Jesse in tears and questioning his self-worth.

In last week's episodes, the couples headed off on a four-day retreat to spend time together in a group setting and it seemingly strengthened their marriage once more, as Claire and Jesse were seen laughing and bonding with their peers.

Their onwards and upwards stint however was thrown into turmoil when fellow controversial groom Harrison, 32, attempted to "de-rail" their marriage which Claire believes was an attempt to "deflect from the troubles in his own" as the 32-year-old builder dragged up their past at the latest dinner party saying she only stayed in the marriage to protect her self-image.

And in Monday's episode, we saw the fallout from his actions, as relationship expert John Aiken called Harrison out for his behaviour.

"There's a lesson here talking to all but particularly Harrison," he said. "You throw grenades like that they have a ripple effect that can do untold damage.

"Words are powerful and when you throw them at relationships, particularly those in crisis they fall apart in front of your eyes and this is the fallout in front of us now."

It came following the heartbreaking admission that Jesse said he didn't feel he could continue with the marriage, despite having confessed to being "the happiest he has been" around his wife Claire in recent weeks before their past had been put in front of them.

"We were in a playful mood, it began to take a turn for me when chat among other couples and drama began," said Jesse admitting he wouldn't have chosen to leave his wife behind if it wasn't for the dinner party scandal.

The incident earlier on in the series left groom Jesse feeling a 'broken man' (Channel 4)

He added: "I think the last straw that broke the camel's back was the comment made by Harrison of Claire only writing stay to protect her self image, I was put back in that moment and reminded of it all."

John added: "It's sad to see u both like this because I looked at you two as a shining example of how you can repair from a betrayal," as their peers looked visibly upset at the destruction that has been caused within their marriage to lead them to this.

In an emotional ending we seen Claire apologise to her husband yet again, as the group rallied round the couple to say their emotional goodbyes.

Meanwhile, the group was left dumbfounded as Harrison and his wife Bronte appeared to do a complete 180 on their marriage yet again despite the beauty educator breaking down in tears at the dinner party and saying she was "100% done" with him.

Harrison had broken up with his wife over text, saying she "wasn't giving the trust and reassurance" he needed yet turned up to Monday's ceremony as he vowed he was "going to let Bronte redeem herself" to him.

The couple both decided to write 'stay' on the couch, despite the majority of the group calling the 32-year-old builder out for what they believe was him "manipulating" his wife.

Lyndall, who has been a huge support to Bronte week in and week out, added: "As Bronte's confidant and someone who has chased her out of several rooms in last week I'm in disbelief what I'm listening to.

"I was willing to go to war for you at the dinner party, how he called you fake and you cried to me saying all the girls were right and I sit here and I have to be honest, I feel stupid."
