Marks and Spencer shoppers 'so frustrated' after spotting 'gorgeous' £79 sequin dress

Marks and Spencer shoppers are irate after spotting a "gorgeous" sequinned dress online, only to discover it's currently out of stock.

Iconic British brand Marks and Spencer is beloved, thanks to its wide array of stylish clothing, homeware, accessories and more. Founded in 1884, the retailer maintains its relevancy in a highly competitive market by consistently posting photos and videos of new and upcoming stock to social media.

M&S operates several dedicated Instagram pages, with millions of fans following for updates. The store came under fire though after sharing an Instagram Reel of its Sequin Round Neck Tie Front Midi Tea Dress.

With Christmas less than 80 days away, many fashion lovers are on the hunt for items that are suited to the festive period. Sequins are always a popular choice at Christmas time, and many shoppers are keen to get their hands on M&S' sparkly number.

The dress, which costs £79, comes in a regular fit with a classic tea style. It's complete with a tie front detail in an all-over silver sequinned material. When available, it can be purchased here.

Marks and Spencer shared an Instagram Reel, originally posted by @carolinesstylehacks, showcasing the dress. Captioning the footage, the retailer simply penned: "Glitter is the new black".

The dress was a big hit among fashion loving Instagram users, who flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts - though many expressed frustration that the dress is sold out, and were annoyed Marks and Spencer chose to share footage of an item they can't currently buy.

Caroline, who is featured in the footage, said: "Gorgeous dress". Ann said: "Love this dress - but it's out of stock?"

Julia said: "Why do you always put out of stock items on insta". Nicola heaped praise on the dress, commenting: "Well this dress is EVERYTHING .. & Caroline as always is looking amazing".

Nicole said: "This is stunning!" But Tatjana said: "The sequin dress is out of stock as per usual with M&S - and yes I checked all your stores near me in London and they are all out of stock in every size??"

Elaine commented: "Everything you put on Instagram is always out of stock. It's SO frustrating." Kirstie said: "M&S you always put out of stock items on here, waste of time".

Sharon said: "There's no point in advertising items that are already out of stock!!! This happens so often". But Phoebe said: "Oh this is just stunning!! I'm in LOVE". Sarah added: "I know what I'll be wearing this Christmas Eve".

In a few follow up comments, Marks and Spencer replied: "This is a recent release of ours and we used our initial intake to see what the demand is like so we'll be getting more stock in the near future so everyone can get their hands on the dress!" The retailer added: "Our Womenswear Team has let us know they are working on getting a new shipment of stock of this dress and we expect to have it available again very soon so keep an eye out."

Marks and Spencer's Sequin Round Neck Tie Front Midi Tea Dress is currently sold out, but you can check stock updates and set reminders by clicking here. Alternatively, you can find your nearest M&S store here.
