Marks and Spencer shoppers say premium anti-ageing cream that’s like ‘8 hours sleep in a jar’ is ‘better than Clarins’

Marks and Spencer shoppers have been heaping praise on an anti-ageing night cream that’s ‘like eight hours of sleep in a jar’. The beauty buy has even been rated as ‘better than Clarins’, with one saying they ‘can’t tell the difference’.

The high street favourite’s Sleep & Replenish Ultimate Sleep Cream has racked up hundreds of five star reviews from customers, who describe it as ‘luxurious’ and ‘perfect for mature skin’.

Priced at £22.50, the cream comes in much cheaper than rivals like the Clarins Super Restorative night cream, which is £84, saving shoppers more than £60.

Marks and Spencer said: “Our Ultimate Sleep Cream is like eight hours of sleep in a jar. It’s formulated to work in harmony with your body's natural circadian rhythm to tackle dryness, dullness and deep wrinkles overnight.”

This product was previously known as Absolute Ultimate Sleep Cream, but the retailer has confirmed that it has the same formulation, just updated with a fresh new look.

Many shoppers who used the night cream have adored it, with one writing: “Once you’ve used this luxurious night cream you won’t want another. It’s similar to a very expensive brand which costs £100 per pot which few can afford. The M&S Formula night cream is perfect for mature skins.”

Another said: “Just like Clarins but £50 cheaper! I heard this was a fantastic cream so I use the night cream as a day cream and honestly can't tell the difference between Clarins day cream at £78 which I've used all my life. The money I could have saved!”

While a third said: “This is a product that feels rich and luxurious but also works. I can go to bed looking a complete wreck and wake up looking quite fresh-faced. I love it.”

The ingredients in the M&S skincare saviour aim to recharge and revive skin while you sleep, including Olea Vitae - a plant-based oil to support skin cells - plus Matrixyl 3000, which is a powerful peptide blend that helps to smooth wrinkles and improve tone and elasticity.

Other hero ingredients include marula oil for its skin-maintaining fatty acids, and antioxidant niacinamide which is known for its anti-ageing properties.

Not everyone was sold on the cream, though, despite a near-perfect rating of 4.8 stars based on more than 600 reviews. Some said they simply preferred other, more expensive creams, while others liked it, but didn’t see many results.

One said: “It’s just o.k. It’s a bit too thick to spread evenly, and the perfume is not that pleasant. I don’t think I’ll buy again. I’ll go back to REN.” With a second adding: “Although this cream is very pleasant to use, I can't really say I see much improvement in my appearance. Maybe, I'm just too old!”

Other anti-ageing creams that have proved popular with shoppers include the Olay Regenerist 3Point Firming Anti-Ageing Night Face Cream Moisturiser, which is usually £34 but has been reduced to £17 at Boots for a limited time, with more than 350 five star ratings. Meanwhile, the Clinique Turnaround Overnight Revitalizing Moisturiser costs £40.
