Marks & Spencer has confirmed it will be removing plastic from its Christmas wrapping paper this year - a move which has divided the opinions of shoppers.
As reported by Birmingham Live, an M&S spokesperson said: "We’re really proud that for the second year running our Christmas greeting cards, gift bags and wrapping paper are all plastic-free – and 100% recyclable.
"We’ve had fantastic feedback from customers and have carried out testing to make sure the labels on our wrapping paper rolls are easy to remove and do not cause damage."

However, customers have mixed opinions about the change. In an online review, Clark wrote: "This wrapping paper is of very high quality but whoever manufactures it and decided to secure each roll in 3 sections with an adhesive band obviously didn’t undertake any testing. When trying to remove the adhesive bands you find they peel away in tiny pieces to the point they damage the wrapping paper and you instantly lose 6/8 inches on each roll. This is such a shame as like I said the actual paper, whilst not cheap, is very good."
Another shopper said: "Bought this wrapping paper with five peel me stickers which were very hard to remove and kept tearing and damaging the wrapping paper, this was to be a quick job now still trying to remove stickers. Wrapping paper design in lovely but first 20cm of paper will have to be cut off."
In response to one critic on social media, M&S said: "We have removed all the plastic from our entire Christmas roll wrap range this year. And to help ensure you still have the same M&S quality we have added an extra 15cm of paper to account for any paper damaged during the removal of stickers.
"So you have exactly the same amount of usable wrap as last year, we just use the extra wrap as protection." It came after a customer commented: "Started wrapping my Christmas presents this morning, using the wrapping paper I got from Marks & Spencer last month in Paris.
"Which made me unbelievably angry. It is plastic free and also ruined on half a metre because the damn stickers don't peel off properly! What a waste!"
