Marks and Spencer fans swear by 'liquid gold' anti-ageing serum with near-perfect five stars they've used for decades

Marks and Spencer fans and beauty buffs alike say they swear by a 'liquid gold' anti-ageing toner serum that makes skin 'glow' and helps to reduce age spots, fine lines and wrinkles. The £43 anti-wrinkle serum isn't the cheapest product on the market, but it has a cult following of women who have been using it for decades - with some saying they've been using it for 27 years.

Alpha-H Liquid Gold with 5% Glycolic Acid can be bought directly from the brand's website for £42.99. It is also available at Marks and Spencer for the same price - but M&S has a deal on at the moment where you will get a free Balancing Cleanser when you buy two Alpha H products.

The Liquid Gold anti-ageing toner contains 5% Glycolic Acid, which gently exfoliates to clear dead skin and pollution build-up. The toner has been created to resurface and revitalise the complexion, which will, in turn, improve luminosity and tone.

The Liquid Gold anti-wrinkle toner also has anti-ageing properties, as its ingredients assist in stimulating collagen production and minimise the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, open pores and sun damage. The toning serum is hydrating and promotes moisture retention, while strengthening the skin's protective barrier.

It has a pH of 2.8 - 3.0, which temporarily compromises the skin barrier to facilitate deeper penetration of active ingredients - something which Alpha-H insists 'is a good thing' - and the clinical trial results appear to confirm it.

At the end of an independent clinical trial performed on a group of 28 participants over 8 weeks, 93% saw an improvement in skin elasticity. 88% of people saw an improvement in skin tone and luminosity, while 88% of people saw an improvement in skin texture.

The anti-ageing toner has a near-perfect five-star rating, with an average rating of 4.8 out of five. 97% of reviewers say they would recommend it to a friend, and beauty buffs have been impressed by how well it hydrates, makes the skin glow, and have hailed it a 'game changer'.

Others have been left impressed by how well it helps to fade age spots and to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Many have been using it for well over a decade.

Calling the Liquid anti-ageing toner their 'go to product' and giving it five stars, one beauty lover said: "Was dealing with adult acne along my chin and this product has been a game changer." A second said: "Fantastic product. Use in the evening and wake to a fresh glow. There are cheaper glycolic products out there, but this one is worth its weight in liquid gold."

A third wrote: "Excellent product my age spots are fading." "The best. I have been using consistently for the past 20 years," penned another fan of the Liquid Gold.

"Love this product. Very gentle but super effective. Leaves skin feeling fresh and brighter. I have noticed an improvement in my skin," wrote somebody else.

Another fan of the product raved: "This is a lovely product that I have used for sometime and it always leaves my skin soft and glowing." "Love this product have been using it for over ten years. I have tried other products but nothing compares to Liquid Gold," said another longstanding user.

"Wonderful product. Doesn't dry my skin out and leaves it glowing and youthful looking. Also good for reducing fine lines and pores," praised another five-star reviewer.

Yet another impressed shopper wrote: "Love this stuff!!!! I have been using this for many years now, makes my skin feel fantastic and looks so bright the next day plus my make-up goes on so much better. I use it twice a week before I go to bed on my face, neck and hand's. I am 71 years old and I think my skin is pretty good for my age. Love it."

The product isn't without its critics. One beauty buff criticised the packaging for travel, writing: "Love this product and my skin gets better every time I used it. That said, I can’t seem to travel with it without it spilling no matter how securely I do the caps. So frustrating since it’s so expensive! Hopefully better packaging is on the way!"

While many beauty lovers claim Alpha-H Liquid Gold is the best Glycolic Acid toner they've tried, there are alternatives on the market. Boots is stocking The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution for £11.50 - which has an average rating of 4.6 stars out of five.

L’Oreal Paris 5% Glycolic Acid Peeling Toner is currently reduced down from £14.99 to £10.04 on the LookFantastic website. However, neither of these products have a 27-year long cult fanbase like the Alpha-H Liquid Gold, albeit a bit more on the pricey side.

The five-star rated Liquid Gold Anti-Ageing Toner with 5% Glycolic Acid is £43 on the Marks and Spencer website.
