Marks and Spencer dubbed a 'disgrace' by shoppers amid advent calendar drama

Supermarket giant Marks and Spencer (M&S) has been slammed by shoppers over its 12 Days of Christmas advent calendar.

Shoppers who have downloaded the calendar were promised presents like free gin snow globes and light up biscuit tins, reports Manchester Evening News. However, bargain hunters have reported that they feel 'conned' by the deals.

M&S fans who have the Sparks app are able to download the 12 Days of Christmas advent calendar. Each day of December, they are able to redeem a new gift or treat.

Each day until December 12, Sparks customers can look forward to their daily reward, which includes personalised offers, free treats and exclusive competitions.

These include:

  • Free treats: A huge range of festive treats are up for grabs, including everyone’s favourite festive tipple – the gin globe, all butter mini shortbread trees, mince pies, Percy Pig lights and tea light-up tins!*
  • Personalised Offers: Exclusive offers will be available to use across M&S Clothing, Home, Food and beyond! Offers include 20 per cent off Christmas prosecco, 20 per cent off chocolate corn wreath, 20 per cent off online flowers and 15 per cent off knitwear*! All perfect for Christmas gifting!
  • Competitions: On one of the 12 days, customers will have the chance to enter a draw for a chance to win a holiday to Canada worth over £12k! But on which day will this prize draw appear in the advent calendar? Sparks customers will have to visit their account each day and open the door to find out.

And while the calendar promises lots of goodies, it is entirely down to the luck of the draw as to what customers will get. While some shoppers have claimed that they've managed to bag mince pies, gin snow globes, chocolates and biscuit tins, others haven't been so lucky.

Less impressed shoppers have had items like satsumas, and measly vouchers off certain items. One shopper complained: "I got satsumas so think I’ll find mine no prob."

Another said: "Mine's just a hand cream for the first day."

And a third wrote: "I got a Robin xmas Dec would of liked the gin lol."

More comments read: "I got a pack of football chocolates..booo not worth the journey."

Others said: "I got a hand cream, might nip in tomorrow and get the two from today and tomorrow - I don’t fancy a daily trip unless it’s amazing and only claimable that day. I’m dubious about the stock for my local though tbh."

And one even stated: "What a flipping disgrace."

Others say they feel 'conned' as they are not able to access the advent calendar - despite having scanned their Sparks cards in stores for recent purchases.

One shopper said: "Just downloaded and says I can’t have it, obviously have to spend. Just bought 4 of those houses the other day."

And another agreed, saying: "I've downloaded, tried on app and desktop version but every time I click today reward it just takes me to the app and nothing showing."

One avid bargain hunter complained: "I’ve updated mine press on it and nothing works can anyone help?"

A fourth added: "I can't get mine to work. The app doesn't need updating either."

M&S told Manchester Evening News: "“We’re delighted that customers have been enjoying our 12 Days of Sparks promotion. We’ve seen unprecedented demand with half a million offers having already been redeemed to date.

"We advise customers to keep checking their local store as more stock is heading to stores over the coming days.”
