High street giant Marks and Spencer (M&S) has come under fire with shoppers over its 12 Days of Christmas advent calendar. Shoppers who have the advent calendar were promised to find goodies like free gin snow globes and light-up biscuit tins inside.
M&S shoppers with the Sparks app are all able to download the 12 Days of Sparks advent calendar. Each day, M&S shoppers who have the app are able to redeem a new gift or treat.
Every day from 1-12 December, Sparks customers can look forward to a daily reward, including free festive treats, personalised offers and exclusive competitions:
- Free treats: A huge range of festive treats are up for grabs, including everyone’s favourite festive tipple – the gin globe, all butter mini shortbread trees, mince pies, Percy Pig lights and tea light-up tins!*
- Personalised Offers: Exclusive offers will be available to use across M&S Clothing, Home, Food and beyond! Offers include 20% off Christmas prosecco, 20% off chocolate corn wreath, 20% off online flowers and 15% off knitwear*! All perfect for Christmas gifting!
- Competitions: On one of the 12 days, customers will have the chance to enter a draw for a chance to win a holiday to Canada worth over £12k! But on which day will this prize draw appear in the advent calendar? Sparks customers will have to visit their account each day and open the door to find out.
But while the advent calendars contain lots of goodies, it's entirely down to luck as to what you'll get. While plenty shoppers say they've managed to bag brilliant goodies like chocolates, mince pies, gin snow globes and biscuit tins, others have been less impressed to find items like satsumas, and vouchers for a percentage off certain items.
Some shoppers have slammed M&S for what they've found inside. Katrine Cassidy said: "I got satsumas so think I’ll find mine no prob." Emily Harris complained: "Mine's just a handcream for the first day." Nikki Wadsworth said: "I got a Robin xmas Dec would of liked the gin lol."
Emma Brimsted said: "I got a pack of football chocolates..booo not worth the journey." Cheryl Marques Da Silva said: "I got a hand cream, might nip in tomorrow and get the two from today and tomorrow - I don’t fancy a daily trip unless it’s amazing and only claimable that day. I’m dubious about the stock for my local though tbh." Emma Brimsted replied: "What a flipping disgrace."
@vioIentdeIights tweeted: "why am i getting the worst things on the m&s 12 days of christmas when everyone else is getting gin."
Others say they feel 'conned' as they are not able to access the advent calendar - despite having scanned their Sparks cards in stores for recent purchases.
Danielle Lotcho said: "Just downloaded and says I can’t have it, obviously have to spend. Just bought 4 of those houses the other day." Kerri Absolom commented : "I've downloaded, tried on app and desktop version but everytime I click today reward it just takes me to the app and nothing showing."
Amy Smith moaned: "I’ve updated mine press on it and nothing works can anyone help?" Katie King agreed: "I can't get mine to work. The app doesn't need updating either."
Some people were, however, thrilled with what they managed to bag through the advent calendar. @Weggster tweeted: "I’ve won on the M&S 12 Days of Christmas advent calendar. I need to share my hate for tea wider I think. Grateful though so thank you." @MrsMummypennyUK said: "Share your M&S sparks card 12 days of Christmas freebies. I got mince pies. But @EveK1979 got a bottle of gin!!! Who can beat gin?"
M&S told Manchester Evening News: "We’re delighted that customers have been enjoying our 12 Days of Sparks promotion. We’ve seen unprecedented demand with half a million offers having already been redeemed to date. We advise customers to keep checking their local store as more stock is heading to stores over the coming days.”
