Marks and Spencer £7.50 shampoo and conditioner transformed my post extensions hair

Marks and Spencer has launched its Apothecary Haircare Collection to combat common hair and scalp concerns and I've been putting each one to the test.

The new M&S range is comprised of six full-sized products, and two travel miniature-sized to create great hair day every day. Each formula uses powerful, plant-based actives, oils and key ingredients like Sweet Almond Milk to strengthen, restore and protect dry and damaged locks.

The products are also infused with a blend of essential oils to bring about a sense of total wellbeing – including peppermint, cedarwood, sweet orange, and sandalwood – help stimulate and awaken senses.

I tried and tested the full collection to see if any would give my hair a new lease of life. There are three ranges to choose from - Detox, Energise and Nourish. I used each one for five days (every single day) so I could pass my judgement on the results.

Although my hair desperately needed all three right away after taking out microbond extensions I've had for eight months, I jumped in with the Detox shampoo and conditioner first. After the first couple of washes, as you can imagine, there was not much difference.

But, by the end of the five days it felt a lot more full of life. The detox range has a formula which helps to fix and protect the hair from a flaky scalp, dry, or hair prone to build up. My scalp was flaky but after a week of using this, that disappeared.

I can't say my hair was any less dry - this would be a long term change I think - but it certainly looked healthier.

I then tested the Energise shampoo and conditioner. I used this range next to tackle the dullness - bearing in mind I took my extensions out after two weeks of bodyboarding in Cornwall when I was in and out of the sea most days - so it was very dull from just not looking after it very well while away. I noticed the least changes with this range to be honest, but in general it added to my hair feeling a lot better.

Then I tested the Nourish range. This shampoo and conditioner combo changed the game for me. This hydrating but gentle formula with Sweet Almond Milk and Wheat Germ is said to help strengthen, restore and protect even the most dry and damaged locks.

It's a sensual fragrance containing essential oils of cedarwood, cinnamon bark, labdanum and pink pepper - all my favourite scents in anything at home, from candles, oil burners and now shampoos apparently!

The nourishing lift I received from root to ends was pretty impressive from five days of use. Everyday washing was made a doddle with these products because they all, I believe, did what they should and gave my hair some life again. You can buy any of the shampoos and conditioners for £7.50 online or in store.
