Mark Wood leaves fans in stitches as he shares ramblings under anaesthetic after surgery

England quick Mark Wood underwent surgery on his elbow on Saturday and shared some hilarious clips of his ramblings while still feeling the effects of the anaesthetic.

Wood sustained the injury while playing in the first Test against the West Indies earlier this month. An ECB statement revealed the operation had "removed bone and scar tissue to address an impingement problem that was causing pain in his elbow when bowling".

And in a post on Instagram, Wood shared several clips of him talking "absolute rubbish" after waking up post-surgery. He captioned the post: "Who says hospital gowns aren’t cool eh!!??

"No more boney fragments in my arm! Thanks to Professor Roger van Riet and Mr Ali Noorani for sorting me out and all the staff who made me feel totally at ease. Langers, the England physio videoed me coming out of the anaesthetic - Bah, I talk some absolute rubbish!!!"

In the clips, which show Wood half asleep and lying in his hospital bed, he says: "I am so chilled. Is my arm still attached? Did they cut my arm off? I feel better, what happened? I feel alright.

"Is my shoulder meant to be sore? That's weird that. I've have had elbow surgery but my shoulders aching. Whatever. I'll still bowl fast."

When Wood's nurse offered to bring him a cup of tea, the 32-year-old told her that "northern boys love gravy and Bovril." Wood also asked everyone to "shake their legs like Elvis Presley".

In a separate clip, Wood can be heard asking his nurse: "I haven't been anxious have I? Have I been okay? I am chilled. Ibiza chilled. I've never been to Ibiza."

The injury also means Wood will miss this year's IPL, having been bought for a whopping £735,000 by new IPL franchise Lucknow Supergiants. When asked about the tournament, Wood replied: "I am so sad. Not [playing] this time. I like Andy Flower. He's a nice guy. Keyhole. Bowen gone? Lollipop, lollipop."

Several of Wood's England teammates found the clips hilarious, with Stuart Broad, Reece Topley, Dom Bess, Liam Livingstone, Ollie Pope, Matthew Fisher and Sam Billings all commenting on the post with the crying with laughter emoji.
