Mark Wahlberg's 'desperately unfunny' Netflix movie breaks record on film review site

Leading Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg has some great films on his CV - but this doesn't stop him from appearing in the odd turkey.

And his latest comedy Me Time spectacularly plumbs new-found depths of awfulness - with reviews website Rotten Tomatoes (RT) awarding it an ironically laughable seven per cent.

Co-starring Kevin Hart, this Netflix bit of pap about a stay-at-home dad who goes on a wild weekend away with an old friend is now the site's lowest rated film for both actors.

Rotten Tomatoes damningly says: 'For viewers inexplicably hungry to see stars wasted on a desperately unfunny comedy, Me Time might be the movie of the year'.

The site's harsh rating puts Me Time below such Wahlberg turkeys as his next worst - Renaissance Man (12 per cent) - and M Night Shyamalan’s The Happening (17 per cent).

Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg in Me Time (Netflix)

'Extended vomiting and farting scenes'

Both films make Tim Burton’s widely disregarded Wahlberg-fronted Planet of the Apes remake look like a masterclass in comparison (a comparatively healthy 43 per cent).

Wahlberg’s highest rated film on RT is Gulf War flick Three Kings, with a stellar 94 per cent, closely followed by other critically acclaimed movies such as Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights (93 per cent), The Fighter (91 per cent) and Martin Scorsese's The Departed (90 per cent).

The talented actor is, of course, also synonymous with the hugely successful Transformers franchise.

Quite where the quality control can disappear to is anyone's guess, with Me Time ruffling a fair few feathers through its sheer lack of resembling anything decent.

Rotten Tomatoes user Magdalena B suggested the ‘comedy’ was nothing of the sort, instead preferring to wallow in "extended vomiting and farting scenes".

Stella D said she actually had to switch off Me Time as it was "so bad", while Grant H admitted to not being able to get through the first hour.

Mark Wahlberg starred alongside Christian Bale in the hard-hitting 2010 sports drama The Fighter (JOJO WHILDEN)

'Was expecting to be mildly entertained but that didn't happen'

He posted: “Manic, unbelievable and shallow characters. Was expecting to be mildly entertained but that didn't happen”.

Me Time scored slightly more favourably on IMDB with an average 5/10.

User Calicodreamin succinctly said: “I don’t think I chuckled even once during this whole movie … (this film) pulled all the modern movie tropes and tried to pass them off as unexpected”.

Another user, jtindahouse, called Me Time a "comedy with nothing to offer".

Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart lark about in Me Time (Netflix)

'Mark definitely looked like he didn’t want to be here'

While chunkylefunga posted “The writing was very lazy and both Mark and Kevin dialled in a sub par performance. Mark definitely looked like he didn’t want to be here”.

Me Time co-star comedian Kevin Hart had less far to fall than Wahlberg, with his top rated film on IMDB being Grudge Match with an adequate 6.4/10.

Behind that were films such as Let Go at 5.2/10 and The Last Stand at a risible 4.2/10.

Me Time is available to stream on Netflix now. We would love to hear your views on this film - let us know in the comments below.
