Mark Speight remembered by co-stars in emotional tributes 13 years after his death

Mark Speight has been remembered by his co-stars in emotional tributes marking 13 years since his death.

The late CBBC star died by suicide at the age of 42 on April 7, 2008.

This occurred four months following the death of his fiancée, actress Natasha Collins, at the age of 31 in January 2008.

Now 13 years on from his death, Mark's old colleagues have paid tribute to the late talented star,

On Wednesday night (April 7), Mark's long-running SMart co-presenter Kirsten O'Brien tweeted about him.

She penned: "Off to bed but just thinking about my mate Mark Speight who we lost 13 years ago today, still the funniest person I have ever had the joy of knowing."

Meanwhile on Thursday, Love Island narrator and comedian Iain Stirling paid tribute to his former CBBC colleague Mark by sharing a fan account's tribute in a quote tweet.

The original fan tweet read: "3 years since we lost the legend himself, Mark Speight [heart emoji] Gone but certainly not forgotten".

Sharing the tribute, Iain penned: "Mark was one of the many reason I was so excited when I first started working at CBBC. A true legend."

Iain also made an appeal to his followers to reach out to friends who may be struggling and to persist on checking in on them.

He added: "Today why not ask a friend how they are and then ask again. Could make all the difference. x".

In response to both star's tributes, many Twitter users shared their own emotional recollections of Mark 13 years on from his death.

One person penned: "A real tragedy that has stuck with a generation. I remember it like it was yesterday. Such a talented artist, cartoonist, presenter and ball of energy that left us all too soon. #MarkSpeight ".

Another wrote to Kirsten: "I remember it like it was yesterday, can’t believe it’s been 13 years. such a great loss. sending you all the love xxx".

Elsewhere, another penned: "Has it has been 13 years already? I used to love watching Smart, Mark's talent for art was amazing. We miss you, Mark."
