Clinical Mark Smith bagged a brace to help Kinnoull begin their East of Scotland League First Division adventure with a hard-earned 2-1 win at Camelon.
The perfect start arrived when the Perth striker found the back of the net in the opening five minutes, tucking home at the second time of asking.
That was how the scoreline stood at the interval but the hosts levelled through Finlay MacKay thanks to a well-worked corner with 51 minutes on the clock.
It wasn’t long before Alan Cameron’s Kinnoull were back in front when, after they stole possession on the edge of the box, the ball broke for Smith to calmly finish.
Delighted with his double, Smith said: “I’m always wanting to get on the scoresheet as a striker and to get two goals and three points was a perfect start to the season.
“I’ve not set myself any targets for goals. It’s going to be a tougher challenge this season and I will take each game at a time.
“But if I beat my goal tally from when I signed last season I’ll be happy with that. As long as we win the game, I’m happy.”
He added: “Camelon is always a tough ground to go to and we knew how tough a game it would be.
“But we worked hard and pressed from the start and got what we deserved from the game.
“We’ve been working a lot in pre-season on a few different things and that showed really well throughout the game.
“The pre-season games showed how good we looked going forward in the last third. There are a few new faces who have come in and done really well.”
