FOX analyst Mark Schlereth discussed the Cowboys’ decision to trade for former 49ers first-round pick Trey Lance during a recent episode of his podcast, and the 57-year-old didn’t hold back when ripping into the organization.
Schlereth addressed Jones’ decision to bring Lance to Dallas without informing either head coach Mike McCarthy or starting quarterback Dak Prescott of what he was scheming, something that didn’t sit well with the NFL analyst.
“This is why the Cowboys will never win s—, because Jerry Jones can’t help himself,” Schlereth said on the latest episode of his podcast, “Stinkin Truth.”
“You think about Jerry Jones, you’re gonna go out there and you’re gonna make a trade for a guy without talking to anybody else in your organization, Stephen Jones, your head coach Mike McCarthy, your quarterback,” continued Schlereth.
While Schlereth admitted the Cowboys may find some success during the regular season, he’s anticipating another early playoff exit for America’s Team.
“Oh, they may win a bunch of regular season games because they’re talented,” he said. “They’ll get in the playoffs, and they’ll s— in their helmets like they do every year.”
The Cowboys have been to the playoffs in each of the past two seasons, but they’ve failed to advance past the divisional round. Since the franchise’s last Super Bowl appearance in the 1995 season, they’ve made the playoffs in 12 separate seasons without reaching the conference championship.
Schlereth suggested the way Jones runs the team is playing a significant role in their lack of postseason success, citing his antics amid the team’s acquisition of Lance as a prime example.
