Mark McGhee reveals Dundee double duty as he aims to down Aberdeen while spying on St Johnstone

Mark McGhee says he'll have one ear on St Johnstone's game while his team take on Aberdeen.

And the Dundee boss even admits events at McDiarmid Park could even affect his game plan.

The Dens Park side are yet to win since McGhee arrived and desperately need a win over Aberdeen to boost their survival hopes.

They sit four points behind St Johnstone heading into the final seven games and a victory over the Dons looks necessary regardless of how Saints fair at home to Livingston.

McGhee though says he'll be keeping a close eye on how things play out in Perthshire.

And he suggested that, depending on how things go, he may adjust his own game-plan on the fly.

He said on BBC Sportsound: "I think we will. Whether we do anything about it, depending on what the situation is, I'm not sure.

"But we do have to know because there are scenarios where we maybe have to react in some way.

"So we'll see, but yeah, I'll be getting told at half-time what's happening there."

The four-point gap between Dundee and St Johnstone looks all the wider when you consider Saints have a far superior goal difference.

11 goals separate the teams but while McGhee knows it's important to start gaining ground, he suggested a point on Saturday afternoon could be considered a good result if Callum Davidson's team lose.

He went on: "We're four points behind St Johnstone so we need to get four more points than they do before the end of the season. Maybe even five points because of the goal difference.

"We can only do it incrementally, we have one game today where there are three points up for grabs.

"At some stage we'll know if a point looks like a good result, or if it's the three points that look important.

"But we've got seven games to claw back the deficit and I don't think we should get too uptight, we should just take it one game at a time."
