Mark Labbett defends Jenny Ryan after Beat The Chasers backlash

Mark Labbett defended his co-star Jenny Ryan over a comment she made to a contestant on Beat The Chasers.

Rather than the usual 5pm showing of The Chase, Beat The Chasers airs this week at 9pm.

Contestants face The Chase Australia’s very own Issa ‘The Supernerd’ Schultz alongside Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace, Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan, Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, and Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis.

On Monday's show, contestant Josh was trying to decide between the various offers on the table from the Chasers and ended up choosing a higher amount. But Jenny soon warned him the decision to go for the higher amount was 'classic greed'.

However, some viewers weren't best pleased with her choice of words, reports YorkshireLive.

@Bufferb2012 said: "Omfg I'm not sure it's up to or appropriate for a chaser to call a contestant greedy #BeatTheChasers that's disgusting of jenny Ryan"

@di2409 said: "Bit rude Jenny calling contestant greedy #BeatTheChasers"

@GemmaMessina said: "@BradleyWalsh @ITV @jenlion watching the first episode tonight and I didn’t like Vixen's undeserved comment about one of the contestants, Josh, saying he was ‘greedy’. This was an unfair and inappropriate comment for a contestant who was nothing but nice and sincere #BeatTheChasers"

But 'The Beast' Mark Labbett defended his co-star, writing on Twitter during the episode. He said: "Jenny called it right, went too high, then crashed and burned"

@bufferb2012 replied: "Maybe she did, but 2 accused a contestant of greed is downright inappropriate and disgusting #rude"

The Beast then came back and said: "It’s Unscripted tv, a bit harsh"
