Mark Allen makes vow after winning World Snooker Tour Player of the Year award

Mark Allen has been named as the World Snooker Tour Player of the Year after a season to savour.

Northern Ireland's top potter has also won the Snooker Journalists' Player of the Year award and WST Fans' Player of the Year in a fine season which saw him pocket three major titles and reach the World Championship semi-finals earlier this month.

Allen successfully defended his Northern Ireland Open title at the start of the season and then followed up that success by winning the UK Championship and then the prestigious World Grand Prix.

The world No 3 was the only player to win three ranking titles this season, the best of his 18-year professional career.

Antrim's Allen also reached the British Open final having somehow managed to navigate crippling debts and personal problems off the table.

The 37-year-old thanked everyone for their support this season, and promised to return stronger next term.

He said on Twitter: "Very happy to have won this award. Thanks to everyone who voted for me. Will do my best to keep going into next season and beyond."

Allen added: "It's great to win all these awards, it's a very special feeling.

"I've had a very good season, winning three titles was fantastic.

"I've had lots of things happen to me off the table, but I've really dedicated myself to winning tournaments this season. That's what I love to do."

Allen narrowly missed out on a place in his maiden World Championship final this season when he lost 17-15 to eventual runner-up Mark Selby in the semi-finals.
