Marisa Abela is keeping tight-lipped about what's in store for Yasmin Kara-Hanani in the upcoming fourth season of HBO’s Industry, but one thing’s for sure: she’s just as eager as the fans to find out.
Season three of the hit finance drama ended on a dramatic note, leaving Yasmin’s future hanging in the balance. In the explosive finale, her character made the surprising choice to marry wealthy aristocrat Henry Muck (Kit Harington) prioritising financial security over her unresolved feelings for Robert Spearing (Harry Lawtey).
Speaking to The Standard at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards at The Mayfair Hotel, Abela admitted she’s yet to receive the scripts but teased that filming is set to begin in just a couple of months.
"I hope I'm going to get [the scripts] very soon, as I'm filming in a couple of months, and it's like, we're very, very excited to see where it's all going to go. I have no idea, like, what she's going to be up to. I'm guessing she's gonna be in Somerset and it's gonna be fun,” she shared.
While details remain under wraps, Abela predicts a tougher version of her character in the next instalment following Yasmin’s calculated decision to marry Henry in a bid to shut the door her father’s downfall and fragile financial state.
"I think it will probably see the kind of, like, hardness of Yasmin a little bit more this season,” she admitted. “I think that she was in such a precarious situation last season, and I think that now she's going to have to put on a brave face, otherwise it's going to be very difficult.
“So I'm predicting a bit of, you know, hardness.”
Beyond Industry, Abela, who is nominated for BAFTAs EE Rising Star Award, is gearing up for the release of her latest project, Black Bag, the highly anticipated spy-thriller directed by Steven Soderbergh in March.
Starring alongside Hollywood heavyweights Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, and Tom Burke, the experience was nothing short of surreal for the actress.
"It was just an amazing room to be in every single day,” she smiled. “I kind of was, like, pinching myself being there. And I'm so excited for it to come out soon, and to sort of start doing the press for that.”
Being surrounded by such seasoned performers was a learning experience in itself, as Abela soaked in every moment on set. One moment that particularly stood out? Her very first day, seated at a dinner table with some of the biggest names in the industry.
The Back to Black actress recalled: "I remember my first day as a sort of dinner table scene. And I was sat on the table with everyone, and I was just like, 'What the hell is my life?' Like, 'How am I sat here with, you know, Steven Soderbergh with a camera in my face, Cate Blanchett to my left and Michael Fassbender to my right?’
“It was just a real, sort of pinch me moment. So, yeah, I guess being among the actors there was kind of insane.”
