Marinakis fires one-word Nottingham Forest message after turbulent week

Miltiadis Marinakis has sent a message to Nottingham Forest fans on social media after Steve Cooper signed a new contract at the football club.

Cooper's job was said to be under threat following the 4-0 defeat to Leicester City on Monday, but he has since penned a new deal which has put to bed all conversations of an early season sacking. Though, Forest have made a slow start to the new season after losing their last five games and are winless in six ahead of the crucial clash with Aston Villa on Monday night.

After Cooper put pen to paper on a new deal, Marinakis - son of Forest owner Evangelos - uploaded a picture on Twitter of a packed out Trent End with the caption: "#BELIEVE #NFFC". Manager Cooper wants to concentrate on the football after speculation surrounding his future has ended.

“It’s good that there’s clarity to the contract situation, because there have been a lot of questions about it over the last few weeks and months. I guess it puts an end to those questions,” he said, ahead of the clash with Villa.

“Everyone who knows me, knows how much I have loved and am loving my time here, at Nottingham Forest. I think everyone knows how important it is to me.

“If I’m being really honest, my real focus at this moment in time is winning a football match, because we are on a poor run of form. Let’s not hide away from that. That is the thing which is on my mind, more than anything.

“But okay, contract signed, brilliant, and thank you. But nothing really changes in terms of my work and making sure each day we try to get the best out of it, try to be ready for the next game. We need to do better. We have to do better. The supporters deserve better. That’s really where my focus is.

“End of the questioning is good, and I’m more than happy to give everything I’ve got to try to succeed here. But that’s where my mindset is - let’s try to succeed, because at the moment, there’s some things that need sorting out, with results and elements of performances.

“We always talk about the collective, the togetherness and the greater good of the football club. It’s a big, proud and very good football club that deserves success and good times - especially the supporters."
