Marina Granovskaia told the one striker Chelsea 'have to' sign ahead of summer transfer window

Glen Johnson has told Chelsea that they have to try and sign Robert Lewandowski this summer with the Poland international's Bayern Munich future in doubt. The future of Romelu Lukaku remains unclear ahead of the summer transfer window and the Blues have been linked with Lewandowski as a possible replacement.

Lukaku was brought back to Stamford Bridge last summer on a club-record £97 million deal but found the net just eight times in 26 Premier League appearances. There have been a number of reports throughout the campaign that he is unhappy in west London leading to rumours that Barcelona, Real Madrid or Inter Milan could sign him this summer.

Thomas Tuchel is facing a hectic summer with the sanctions placed on Roman Abramovich meaning they have fallen behind the competition when it comes to transfer negotiations. A raft of new defenders will be required but midfielder and attacking reinforcements are also said to be on the cards.

Lewandowski once again finished as the Bundesliga's top scorer, for the fifth time in a row, but has reportedly told Bayern that he intends to leave in the summer. Barcelona are reportedly the favourites to land him but Chelsea are among those holding an interest.

Johnson believes that although the veteran will be available for free in 2023, it as an opportunity his former club cannot pass up. Speaking to BettingOdds.com, he said: “In terms of the player himself, then yes. But business-wise, what that might do to Lukaku, if he’s not playing where’s he going to go, how much is he going to be worth.

"They bought him for an awful lot of money. But at the same time, if they give him another six months and he doesn't perform, then they might miss out on the top four. It’s a tough one. While Lewandowski is available on the free, I think you have to try and sign him.”
