Mariah Carey is being sued for £16million over her iconic festive chart topper All I Want For Christmas Is You.
The pop superstar first released the iconic single back in 1994 - but another musician is now claiming that his song - by the same name - was the inspiration behind it.
According to TMZ, the singer is being sued for copyright infringement Andy Stone who says he co-wrote and recorded his song years before the Christmas hit was released by Carey.
He claims the five-time Grammy winner and her team failed to ask permission to use his title and is seeking at least £16million in damages, according to the Mirror.
During the Christmas period last year, the track is said to have bagged the star a whopping £40million.
The festive single comes with a lot of heartbreak for Mariah - as it reflects on painful memories of her earlier years.
Speaking of her childhood, she said: "I always wanted Christmas to be perfect and I always looked forward to the holidays, but I had this incredibly dysfunctional family that would ruin it every year."
She says that in her younger days she would sometimes find only wrapped-up fruit under the tree. "I was like, ‘When I grow up, I am never going to let that happen. I am going to make Christmas perfect every year’."
The star added: "I have always had such an emotional connection to Christmas. It wasn’t about the gifts, but the hopefulness of the holiday season. I wanted to express that spirit and make a song that made me feel happy at the holidays.
"It was inspired by songs from the 50s and 60s, the ones that you just couldn’t help but be happy whenever you heard them. It means so much to me to be able to sing that song with people all over the world and to share experiences with people that have made this song part of their lives."
Mariah's representative have been contacted for a comment.
