Mariah Carey slammed for 'low-energy lip sync' of Christmas classic

Mariah Carey has angered fans after she supposedly lip synced her Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade performance.

The 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' singer was slammed for putting on a "low-energy" performance as fans all over America tuned in to watch the annual parade.

The 52-year-old was also accused of forgetting the words to her own festive song, despite being the unofficial 'Queen of Christmas'.

Footage of the star has been criticised as viewers said she stood "completely still" while singing, in what has been described as the "least animated" performance of her career, the Mirror reported.

Taking to Twitter, one fan said: "Why does it seem like Mariah has forgotten the lyrics to her own song? The lip-sync is so out of whack lmao."

Another wrote: "Mariah Carey giving us low-energy Divine realness at the Macy's Thanksgiving parade." While a third added: "Respect to Mariah Carey for not even pretending not to lip sync."

This isn't the first time the singer has faced scrutiny for her public performances.

A few years ago, Mariah Carey's 2017 New Year's Eve show in New York was a "disaster", but the star blamed the production crews for the "unlistenable" performance.

Technical issues and live glitches meant her show was filled with audio errors, making it almost impossible to watch and listen to.

In a statement issued after the 2017 performance, Mariah said her "ear monitors were not working at all", adding that she was trying to be a "good spirit".

Her Macy's appearance comes after she lost a trademark battle to become the official Queen of Christmas.

Mariah had attempted to trademark the title, shortened to QOC, but her request was denied by the US Patent and Trademark Office after her company failed to respond to a rival's opposition.

Her company Lotion LLC applied for the trademark earlier last year, but they ran into issues despite it being something that would normally happen without any problems.

Singer Elizabeth Chan put in a legal challenge in August in a bid to stop her from obtaining the registration after disagreeing with Mariah's merchandise intentions.

Unfortunately for Mariah, Lotion LLC didn't respond to Elizabeth's opposition in time, which now means the trademark was not granted.
