Margot Robbie & Jacob Elordi Will Star In A New Wuthering Heights Film & Fans Are… Concerned

Emily Brontë fans are shaking right now, because Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi have just been confirmed as the new leading faces in an upcoming film adaptation of 19th century classic, Wuthering Heights.

Helmed by Oscar-winning director Emerald Fennell — who also directed Elordi in 2023’s family-film of the year, Saltburn — the film is set to start production in 2025.

In a truly massive win for actors Down Under, the two Aussie-grown superstars will star as Brontë’s iconic couple, with Elordi as Heathcliff and Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw, confirmed Deadline.

Now if you’ve read the gothic-romanticist classic as a literature-nerd, or were forced to in high school, you might be wondering why two Aussies have been cast to play the ye-olde-England couple. Presumably they’ll be doing accents? Which is fine I guess…

It’s just a shame we probably won’t get to hear Jacob Elordi say, “Be with me always – take any form – drive me mad! Only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you!” with his natural Aussie twang.

Additionally, the casting of Elordi as Heathcliff also raised concerns from fans online, due to how the novel alludes to the character being biracial and described as dark-skinned in some excerpts.

This has resulted in folks online questioning why another adaptation of the novel is even being made, when other interpretations were done recently.

Meanwhile others have called for an all-new recast entirely.

That all said, with the Promising Young Woman director set to write, direct, and produce, I say we let Fennell cook.

Other than these two cast members, the director, and Margot Robbie’s production company LuckyChap Entertainment all being confirmed as on board, little is currently known about the Wuthering Heights project.

This will come as yet another on-screen version of the beloved novel, with a previous interpretation starring Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche in 1992, and the earliest film-adaption dating back to 1920.

Oh, and that one Kate Bush song.
