Margot Robbie has given her seal of approval for Lady Gaga to take on her role of Harley Quinn in the new Joker film.
The Australian actress said she is happy for Lady Gaga to play the role in Joker: Folie a Deux.
She told MTV News : "It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning that all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters the way… like Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor.
"I feel like, in not so many cases, are there female characters — Queen Elizabeth I, but beyond that, which I got to have a crack out as well, which I was honoured to do. I was like, 'Wow! Cate Blanchett did Queen Elizabeth I. Now I get to.'"
Margot played the role of Harley Quinn in both Suicide Squad films, as well as the spinoff Birds of Prey.
However, she is now excited to see the character evolve with Lady Gaga.
Margot said: "It’s such an honour to have built a foundation strong enough that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to have a go at playing. And I think she’ll do something incredible with it."
Joker: Folie a Deux is due to be released in 2024 which will be the first time fans of the franchise will see the supervillain played by Lady Gaga.
However, the plot of the film has been kept a secret so far.
Joaquin Phoenix will be returning to reprise his role as the Joker, after the original feature was released in 2019 to high praise from critics.
