Marcus Thuram and three Mykhaylo Mudryk Arsenal alternatives as £88m Chelsea deal 'very close'

The latest development in the Mykhaylo Mudryk transfer saga has been written and it will likely result in Arsenal drawing up a shortlist of alternatives to the 22-year-old. According to multiple reports, Chelsea have reached an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk for Mudryk which will see the Blues pay a £62million fee up front with a further £26million available in add-ons.

A third bid from Arsenal believed to be in the region of £75-80million was being heavily considered by Shakhtar, although there were a few details to iron out, with technical director Edu heading to Warsaw in an attempt to finalise the move.

Chelsea, however, have now swooped in and completed a major hijack on the Gunners, with the winger now open to joining the Blues, set to sign a seven-year contract and travelling to London for his medical, as revealed by The Athletic.

With it looking as though Mudryk will become Chelsea's fifth signing in January, Arsenal must look elsewhere for reinforcements in the winter window. With that said, football.london has taken a look at some potential Mudryk alternatives Arsenal can push to sign.

Marcus Thuram

With Chelsea's attacking woes prominent, the Blues also registered an interest in Marcus Thuram who will see his contract at Borussia Monchengladbach expire in the summer.

After signing Joao Felix on loan there were reports Chelsea were still in for both Mudryk and Thuram. But after the latest developments on the 22-year-old Ukrainian, the Gunners could swoop in for Thuram.

Chelsea had entered talks for the Frenchman, meaning Arsenal could plot their own transfer hijack payback on their London rivals by signing Thuram in the winter, although his stance on a mid-season departure remains unclear.

Leandro Trossard

A very public falling out with Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi likely means that a quick exit for Leandro Trossard is on the cards. Chelsea were interested in the Belgian but after reports emerged the Gunners were monitoring his situation, Edu could make Trossard his priority.

The 28-year-old saw a one-year extension activated in his contract that will take his deal to 2024, but after a statement was released by his agent, a departure this month seems highly likely.

Tottenham are also interested, and although he may not completely fit into how Mikel Arteta is hoping to build his team as he is six years older than Mudryk, he could be an excellent addition.

Ferran Torres

A deal for Barcelona star Ferran Torres may better suit Arteta than other alternatives with the methods he is setting in place at Emirates Stadium. A young, vibrant attacker with an eye for a goal sounds extremely similar to the qualities possessed by Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.

Barcelona could also be open to selling the 22-year-old just 12 months after he left the Premier League for Barca and according to a recent report from Estadio Deportivo, Arsenal may look to pursue a deal for Barcelona star Ferran Torres should they fail to secure a deal for Mudryk, which looks like it will be the outcome.

Martin Terrier

Mudryk was mostly an unknown entity to most before Arsenal sparked up an interest and another possible alternative in Rennes forward Martin Terrier would also likely come into the same category.

A report from Media Foot has claimed that both Liverpool and Arsenal have enquired about the 25-year-old with Tottenham also linked with a move for the French attacker.

Media Foot claim the Lilywhites have held talks with the player's representatives. Rennes will demand a fee in the region of €50million (£44million) for the attacker, who has continued his fine form this season with 12 goals and five assist in all competitions this season.
