Marcus Smart on Boston Celtics’ second-half success: I always knew we had this potential

The Boston Celtics are a very different team in the second half of their 2021-22 NBA season than the team we saw hovering around .500 on the proverbial treadmill of mediocrity the team seemed to be stuck on for over a season prior.

Much of that has simply come from the time needed for the team to learn the system instituted by first-year head coach Ime Udoka, as well as the space needed for teammates to learn how to trust one another within its confines. Celtics fans of course have been loving the change as little else heals avoidable losses to inferior teams like blowout wins over good ones.

Boston’s players have been loving it as well, with veteran Celtics point guard Marcus Smart recently appearing on an episode of ESPN’s “NBA Today” to talk with host Malika Andrews about the team’s recent success, and his case to win the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) award.

Check out the video embedded above to hear what the Flower Mound native has to say about his team and its potential moving forward.
