Marcus Rashford spotted limping out of Old Trafford amid concerning injury update

Manchester United fans could be fearing the worst after Marcus Rashford was spotted appearing to limp after suffering an injury during the win over Barcelona.

The in-form forward was substituted late on during Thursday's Europa League clash after receiving treatment only moments earlier following a coming together with Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo. Rashford then walked down the touchline with only one boot on having removed the other in a concerning sight for Red Devils supporters.

The 25-year-old only added to those concerns when he posted that image of himself on Instagram accompanied by a bandaged emoji, suggesting his knock could prove problematic. He was then seen walking out of Old Trafford after the game and looked to be hobbling more than usual.

The timing couldn't be much worse for United with their Carabao Cup final against Newcastle on Sunday. Rashford has been in flying form, having scored 16 goals since Christmas after returning from the World Cup.

He has only failed to score in four of his matches in that period, including the latest win over Barcelona. While there has been no official update on his injury as yet, Erik ten Hag will be desperate for Rashford to be involved against Newcastle as the Dutchman bids to win his first trophy as United's manager.

His side also have some significant fixtures to come beyond that, with their FA Cup fifth round tie against West Ham next Wednesday, followed by a trip to rivals Liverpool as they look to keep up their outside chance of a Premier League title challenge.

Former United star Robin van Persie was in attendance at the match on Thursday for what was a historic night in Ten Hag's tenure. The retired striker told BT Sport: "Rashford is a unique talent. You could see that in the Premier League at an early age.

“He is now at a stage where it doesn’t matter who he is playing, if it’s Barcelona, or in England, or a cup game, he can trust his own qualities.

“He is physically very strong, mentally he is very confident, that is connected as well to Erik ten Hag because he gives him the confidence and the stage, so for him it’s just a matter of being fit, enjoy the game, it doesn’t matter against who, he will do the job.”

United's options in attack without Rashford are limited, with Anthony Martial still not back from injury. Wout Weghorst led the line against Barcelona but despite a good all-round contribution, has failed to score in his last eight appearances.

Rashford was replaced by midfielder Scott McTominay as Ten Hag looked to see out the win, offering no clues as to how he might replace him. United could use Jadon Sancho in his favoured wide-left role if his teammate does not recover in time for Sunday's final.

Alejandro Garnacho could be another option, while summer signing Antony will be high on confidence after scoring the winner off the bench against Barcelona.
