Marcus Rashford's admission shows extent of revival after Man Utd struggles last season

Marcus Rashford continued his goalscoring heroics to fire Manchester United back into the top four and admits he's "enjoying himself".

Rashford's first-half strike against Brentford took his goal tally for the season to 28 - equalling the most goals from a United player in a season since Sir Alex Ferguson retired a decade ago. That was enough to give United a 1-0 win against the Bees at Old Trafford.

England striker Rashford has now scored 10 winning goals for United in the Premier League this season, the most since Wayne Rooney 13 years ago. Victory got United back on track after Sunday's abject 2-0 defeat against top-four rivals Newcastle at St James' Park.

Rashford said: "I'm enjoying myself. The main aim for me is just to keep trying to win matches for the club and try and get as deep into the season as we can.

"We need to try and get as many points as we can. We know the two teams at the top are running away with it a little bit, but it's important for us and our own growth and development to keep winning games and see how many points we can finish on.

"Everyone is clear that we're not going to play our best every week, but there's never a time to drop our standards and we have to keep trying to push each other every week."

Rashford's scoring exploits mark a sensational comeback for the forward, who scored just five goals in all competitions last season. In February 2022, talkSPORT pundit and ex-striker Darren Bent noted: "He just doesn’t look happy, that’s the biggest thing."

Rashford was even dropped by England manager Gareth Southgate but has fought back to regain his spot this season. He scored in United's Carabao Cup final victory against Newcastle in February and could end the season with another two trophies.

Erik ten Hag's side will face Brighton in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and Sevilla in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. The United boss will need Rashford to be at his best if they are to add more silverware to the club's packed trophy cabinet.

Ten Hag hailed match-winner Rashford at full-time. He said: "He played a very good game, leading the line. We used him as a target and he was in the box, where we expect him to be, to finish the chance and score.

"When you lose after the international break, you have to bounce back, so we did and I think it was a good performance as well."

Brentford boss Thomas Frank said, "I think it's a very good picture of the fact we're disappointed we didn't get something from this game. It shows how far we have come when we go to Old Trafford against Manchester United and the disappointment is big among the players and myself."
