Marcus Rashford makes 'bitter' Liverpool claim and Anfield confession to LeBron James

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has admitted he hates Liverpool and feels a bigger sense of rivalry in comparison with Manchester City.

Despite the contrasting fortunes of Liverpool and United in recent years, as well as matches with City becoming a greater priority in the context of the Premier League season, there is always an edge to matches played between the sides.

Jurgen Klopp's side humiliated the Red Devils both home and away in the top-flight last campaign, piling pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the meeting and Old Trafford and presenting Ralf Rangnick with a clear picture of the rebuilding job that was required after suffering a 4-0 loss at Anfield.

Derby matches often mean more for local players fortunate enough to be representing the team they have supported their entire lives, a sentiment which applies for both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Rashford. It should perhaps come as no surprise then that the latter is not fond of the Reds, having grown up understanding the significance of this heavyweight fixture.

Asked if there are any clubs he hates during an interview alongside Reds fan LeBron James with Uninterrupted, he said: "Liverpool. I don't like Liverpool, and City. Obviously Liverpool have history so it is a bit more bitter but, with City, it's like you don't like them but you don't really have a massive reason not to like them. You just grow up and it's two Manchester sides, one wears light blue and one wears red. But the rivalry with Liverpool, it feels much more."

Rashford's first taste of facing off against Liverpool came during his breakthrough season of 2015/16, featuring for 45 minutes as his side were beaten 2-0 in a Europa League Last 16 first leg contest at Anfield. Often an unpopular venue for away players due its intimidating atmosphere, the England international admitted he has a love-hate relationship with the home of the Reds.

"Liverpool is like both," Rashford responded when quizzed on which grounds he loves or dislikes visiting. He added: "Their fans can take the game away from you. If you let them, they can take it away from you. My first game at Anfield, I almost got sent off straight away and I'm not a malicious player - I wouldn't try and hurt someone on purpose."
