Marcus Rashford injury: Manchester United and Erik ten Hag issue ‘statement’

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is set to miss a "few games" through injury, manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed.

The striker has impressed all season, putting the disappointing form of last term behind him to rack up 28 goals across all competitions.

But, with United in a tough race for the top four, Rashford has been sidelined with a groin injury.

A timeframe for his return has not been given, but Ten Hag was upbeat when talking to reporters on Wednesday.

“A few games, so that is the statement,“ Ten Hag told reporters ahead of Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final first leg against Sevilla.

“I can’t give more details of it because we don’t know. We have to see how it develops, the injury. Of course it’s a setback and he’s disappointed about it.

“But he’s not totally broke because he knows he will return quickly, so he’s optimistic and he’s started straight on his recovery and his rehab so that helps to get back soon.”

It has been a costly few weeks for United on the injury front, having also lost the services of youngster Alejandro Garnacho and left-back Luke Shaw, but the manager expects the latter "back on short notice".
