Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Marcus Rashford is a major doubt for Saturday's game against Wolves after picking up a leg injury.
Rashford, 25, has been the Red Devils' main goal threat this season, having scored 29 times in 53 matches in all competitions. Bruno Fernandes (11) is second to the England international and Rashford's form has helped propel United into the Champions League places.
United currently sit fourth, one point ahead of Liverpool with a game in hand and a spot in Europe's elite club competition is all but theirs should they win three of their remaining four games. However, Ten Hag could be without one of his most important assets ahead of the clash with Wolves this weekend.
"He has a problem, an injury on his leg, so he is a big question mark for tomorrow," said Ten Hag. "But we are happy Rapha Varane is back. [Rashford] is doubtful, more than doubtful. So [there is] a big question mark.
"We have players who can score goals and they have the opportunity now to show it. Varane is experienced, knows how to win and will lead how to win, will guide us."
Varane is set to return to the squad to face Wolves following injury for the first time since the Europa League quarter-final first leg draw with Sevilla a month ago. Saturday's game could also see the return of Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine hasn't played since the goalless draw against Southampton.
Ten Hag added: "Alejandro Garnacho has one more week training, definitely, so he is available. We have seen he can bring something extra in the team."
Scott McTominay and Tom Heaton are expected to miss out again, while Donny van de Beek and Lisandro Martinez have both been ruled out for the season.
United have four matches to go to secure their place in the Champions League next season, but two successive defeats have slowed their progress. Liverpool, meanwhile, have won their last six matches and will be confident to close the gap and potentially catch the Red Devils.
When asked about the top-four race, Ten Hag said: "It's clear, we know that, but it's not important because we have everything in our hands. We must bring our performance, then it's not important. What is important is the opponent we face tomorrow: Wolves.
"We have to take them seriously. They have done a great job, focus on that but they also have deficits, take advantage of that."
United travel to in-form Bournemouth next week, before hosting Chelsea and Fulham in their final two Premier League games. This is all before the FA Cup final against Manchester City on June 3 in what will be the Red Devils' last game of a hectic campaign.
