Marcus Rashford insists Manchester United did not give up in their 7-0 mauling at arch rivals Liverpool.
Erik ten Hag's side shipped six goals in a second-half collapse at Anfield, to slump to the joint-worst defeat in United's history.
But United striker Rashford rubbished the claim United's players gave up, although he did admit the team failed to follow the principles that have seen them make such progress this season.
"We didn’t give up, that’s nonsense," said Rashford. "We were unorganised, communication was bad, that’s why we conceded the goals.
"But I believe everyone was trying to get back into the game that much, we came away from the principles too much, the forwards were trying to press as a unit but we weren’t connected with the midfield. We were trying to get a grip of the game at 2-0 and 3-0, we were talking, but we weren’t in agreement with what to do.
"It's happened, we can learn from it and move on. I’m happy and grateful we have another game quickly because we have an opportunity to take a step forward."
Rashford took to social media in the wake of the defeat to insist United cannot let it define their season and reiterated that message ahead of tomorrow's Europa League tie with Real Betis.

"Losing against Liverpool is enough," said Rashford. "The scoreline doesn’t matter. When you lose a game against any of your biggest rivals, it cuts deep, it’s not nice and it’s never a nice feeling.
"But I also remember how many games we’ve won against them. It’s football, it’s why everyone loves the game so much. It’s disappointing, but we can’t dwell on it and look back, we have to be thankful games are coming thick and fast.
"We’re in a position where we’re still fighting on all fronts, when we have a game like that we want to play as soon as possible to put it right."
The England ace had been in sensational form prior to the clash against Liverpool, having struck five times in his previous four league matches. He also struck against Barcelona in the Europa League and Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final to take his tally up to 25 in all competitions.
But Rashford will not want to remember this particular trip to Liverpool again as United still fight for four trophies this season. Although it seems a major longshot, the Red Devils are not out of the title race and are still in the FA Cup and Europa League.
