Marcus Edwards hints at Premier League transfer decision after haunting Tottenham

Former Tottenham Hotspur winger Marcus Edwards has revealed his ambition to return to the Premier League after he helped Sporting to a 2-0 victory against his former club. Ex-Spurs man Edwards started for the Portuguese side and put in a starring role as they defeated Tottenham in the Champions League, with late goals from Paulinho and Arthur Gomes condemning Antonio Conte's side to their first loss of the season.

Edwards has blossomed since leaving Spurs in 2019. The 23-year-old failed to make a first-team appearance despite being at the club for 13 years, but he is now showing off his talent on the European stage.

The winger signed for Sporting in January after an impressive two-and-a-half year spell at Vitoria de Guimaraes. He has directly contributed to 12 goals in 23 appearances since signing for the Lisbon-based club.

Edwards admitted it was slightly odd feeling to go up against the team who he joined at the age of eight and who he signed his first professional contract with at 17. Despite playing the best football of his career in Portugal, Edwards has revealed his goal to play in the Premier League in the future.

"I wouldn't say extra special [to beat Tottenham], it was a strange feeling playing against Spurs, I was there for so long," Edwards told BT Sport.

"Of course, it's my home, of course I want to come back there one day [to the Premier League]."
