Marcos Alonso's latest transfer admission amid growing interest from Barcelona suggests that the Chelsea defender could follow Antonio Rudiger to La Liga. The Spain international sees his contract at Stamford Bridge expire at the end of next season, feeding into the potential exodus in west London.
The 31-year-old has courted interest from the Catalan side this season and is one of many candidates to bolster Xavi's options at left-back this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano. Barcelona have reportedly already been in contact with the Blues to 'explore intentions and potential price' for Alonso, who is valued at £5.9million by CIES Football Observatory.
Amid the flurry of speculation linking the Spaniard to a move back to his homeland, it appears as if Alonso is in favour of a deal of materialising. In doing so, the defender could be following Chelsea teammate Rudiger, who has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, to Spain in the near future.

Speaking to Spanish outlet Ok Diario, Alonso devoted his immediate future to Thomas Tuchel's side though eh admitted that he would 'always be delighted to return to Spain'. The defender said: "Barcelona? I have a contract and at the moment I’m still at Chelsea,” he said. "I am happy, although I would always be delighted to return to Spain. That’s what I can say today.”
Alonso has featured 42 times across all competitions for the west Londoners this season, directly contributing towards nine goals. The defender has often found himself the first name on the team sheet since Ben Chilwell's season-ending knee injury in November.
However, when the England international has been fit, the Spaniard's been relegated to the bench and shunned of frequent first-team opportunities. With Chelsea in the midst of uncertain times following the sanctioning of Roman Abramovich and unlikely minutes on the horizon upon Chilwell's return next season, Alonso seems ready to jump ship.
