Florida Republican Marco Rubio is poised to take on the role of Secretary of State, with his swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Tuesday. The oath will be administered by Vice President JD Vance.
Rubio's confirmation process went smoothly, as he breezed through his hearing in front of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations last week. The Senate unanimously approved his appointment on Monday, making him the first of President Donald Trump's Cabinet picks to receive the green light.
Prior to his nomination by Trump last year, Rubio had been serving as a senator for Florida since 2011. His selection for the position came after Trump's victory in the November election.
Notably, Rubio is considered one of the less controversial choices for Trump's Cabinet, garnering bipartisan support for his appointment.
