Marcelo Gallardo has reportedly turned down a formal offer from Leeds United, as the Whites appear to have suffered another setback in their quest to find a replacement for Jesse Marsch.
The Times reported earlier this week that Gallardo featured on a three-man shortlist, which included ex-Leeds assistant and under-23 coach Carlos Corberan and Rayo Vallecano boss Andoni Iraola. However, Corberan dropped out of the running by signing a new long-term deal at West Brom, while Vallecano have blocked Leeds' approach for Iraola. And according to Argentinian outlet TyC Sports, the Leeds board could be set to face further frustration.
The report claims that Andrea Radrizzani is a huge advocate of the Argentine model following the success of Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road. But Leeds have had a formal offer for Gallardo turned down as the former River Plate boss is in 'no rush' to return to management before the end of the season.

Gallardo is believed to prefer starting a new project in the summer as it will provide him the freedom to assemble his own squad. He also has concerns over the language barrier. Although the use of a translator could be an effective solution, he feels he needs to know the English language in order to form a stronger bond with the players.
The three-time South American Coach of the Year has been out of a job since leaving River Plate last year. He is the most successful manager in the club's history and won a total of 15 trophies with his boyhood club. Gallardo reportedly turned down the role of technical director of Ajax last week, while Sevilla are another club interested in securing the Argentine's signature.
Arne Slot has emerged as the bookmakers' favourite to take over at Elland Road, although Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan insists that the Feyenoord boss won't be leaving Rotterdam mid-season.
