Former Chile manager Martin Lasarte has slammed the prospect of Marcelo Bielsa becoming the next manager of the Uruguay national team.
Oscar Tabarez had previously occupied the managerial hotseat for 15 years until Diego Alonso replaced him in December 2021.
Alonso reigned from his post after Uruguay suffered group stage elimination at the 2022 World Cup. Ex-Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has reportedly agreed to become his successor, although no official announcement has been made.

Uruguayan-born Lasarte, who won just seven of his 22 games in charge of Chile, has criticised the possibility of a foreign manager taking over La Celeste, and believes Rossi should've been given more time.
“I don't like that a foreign coach comes to direct the Uruguayan team. This was the chance for a Uruguayan coach to lead the team, the time to do a long-term project," Lasarte told Radio Carve as relayed by Minutod.
"For me, Diego Alonso was not a bad option for him to continue in office. But there are some who think that everything is wrong, that everything must be swept away and an Argentine coach brought in."
Bielsa has been out of work since he was sacked by Leeds in February 2022. The Argentine was previously linked with Bournemouth and Everton, and rejected the latter following Frank Lampard's departure from Goodison Park.
