Marcelo Bielsa must find answer to Leeds United problem he admittedly couldn't solve previously

Leeds United can put an end to their torrid recent form when they host Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The Whites will be hoping they can replicate the first half performance they produced against Spurs during the return fixture in November.

After a thoroughly dominant opening 45 minutes, in which Daniel James netted his first goal for the club, Leeds went into the interval 1-0 ahead.

However, it was a story of Jekyll and Hyde for Marcelo Bielsa’s side as Spurs turned the game completely on its head, both in terms of performance and the score line.

Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and Sergio Reguillon scored two quickfire goals for the hosts and Leeds failed to wrestle back any sort of control in the game, meaning they went home empty handed.

In his post-match press conference, Bielsa admitted that he knew how Antonio Conte’s side had started to get the better of his side. He claimed that their two midfielders were able to find their three attackers - Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane and Lucas Moura – in dangerous areas of the field on a frequent basis.

Bielsa revealed he tried many solutions in order to combat this issue, but to no avail.

The Argentine will therefore need to ensure that issue is fixed if Leeds are to come away with three points at Elland Road on Saturday.

He said: “In the second half it was difficult for us not to be dominated. The differences that we established in the first half in terms of dominance were important. But the differences that they established in the second half over us were also important.

“The final half an hour of the game was difficult for us, the game presented a difficulty that I saw clearly. In the first half, over their back three and two midfielders we had a lot of presence so they couldn't give the ball to their forwards comfortably, especially over their two defensive mids and we lost that in the second half.

“Their two midfielders started to manage the ball better and they improved their forwards because they gave the ball to them in better conditions. And I started seeing that problem and I tried to solve it in different ways.

“We started in the second half with Forshaw and Klich, after I attempted with Phillips and Forshaw, after with Phillips and Tyler, after with Pascal and Tyler and finally with Pascal and Dallas.

“There was far too many movements to solve the same problem and in the end we didn't solve this problem. And my task is to see the problem and solve it, and I didn't manage to do it. To have used so many variants, this isn't good.”
