Marcelo Bielsa 'has almost everything agreed' on Athletic Bilbao return - on one condition

Former Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has been tipped to make a sensational return to Athletic Bilbao this summer. Bielsa has been out of work since his exit from Elland Road back in late February and is reportedly set to jump back into management with Athletic Club.

Reports in Argentina suggest the former Leeds boss has almost agreed terms with one of Athletic Club's three presidential candidates who will stand for the club's presidency later this month.

Claudio Mauri, a journalist for Argentine outlet La Nacion tweeted: "Marcelo Bielsa has almost everything agreed - with Loco you always have to leave a margin for the unforeseen - to be the coach of #AthleticBilbao with one of the three candidates who will stand in this month's elections."

It had been previously reported Athletic Club's presidential candidates were keen to bring Bielsa back as a sporting director, who would oversee the direction of footballing matters in the Basque region.

However, Mauri's tweet suggests at least one of the candidates wants to install Bielsa as manager, which would see him replace current boss Marcelino. Bielsa is fondly remembered in the Basque country after he helped Athletic Club to one of their most memorable seasons in recent history back in 2012.

While they finished 10th in La Liga, Athletic Club reached the final of the Copa del Rey and the Europa League, playing some of the most eye catching football in Europe that season. Their Europa League campaign famously saw them dump Manchester United out of the competition in the round of 16, with Bielsa and co besting Sir Alex Ferguson's side 3-2 at Old Trafford and 2-1 at the San Mames.
