Marcella: Anna Friel shares behind-the-scenes photos from her time in Belfast filming season 3

Anna Friel has shared a series of behind-the-scenes photos from filming in Belfast after the third season of Marcella began on ITV.

The acclaimed show follows the character of Marcella Backland (played by Friel) as she tries to juggle both her family life and her new role undercover after a career as a detective with the Met Police.

While the first two seasons of Marcella are filmed and set in London, the third series of the show sees Marcella go undercover in Belfast.

Taking on the identity of Keira Devlin, the third series shows us how Marcella has spent ten months trying to get closer to the Maguire crime family, going out with Lawrence, who works for the family and introduces her to them.

This includes the family matriarch Katherine, played by Amanda Burton, who previously starred alongside Anna Friel on Brookside.

The first two episodes of the third season aired last Tuesday, January 26, and won viewers over with tense exchanges between the troubled Marcella and the ruthless Maguire clan.

Viewers can continue to watch the show weekly, and on the ITV Hub, and now Friel has shared some photos from her time filming.

Taking to Instagram last week, ahead of the first episode broadcasting, Friel said:

"Thank you so much all the incredible support and kind words ahead of tonight’s Marcella premiere for UK audiences.

"Here is a little behind-the-scenes journey from a time before the pandemic changed our lives."

Marcella was filmed in Northern Ireland between March 25 and July 24 2019, before Covid arrived.

The show continues on ITV on February 2, or you can watch the full third series on the ITV Hub.
