Marc Skinner praises Maya Le Tissier after goalscoring debut for Manchester United

Manchester United Women started their WSL season with a bang, winning 4-0 against Reading at Leigh Sports Village. And it wasn't just the familiar names that were impressive, with a number of players making their debut and really showing the fans what they can do.

At the top of that list was defender Maya Le Tissier, who not only kept a clean sheet but scored two goals to help her team to the win. The 20-year-old was signed from Brighton this summer and has seemingly already endeared herself to the United faithful.

Goalkeeper Mary Earps was left with very little to do throughout the game. This was partly due to Le Tissier's ability both on and off the ball.

And Manager Marc Skinner admitted he was impressed by what he saw. Speaking after the game, Skinner was full of praise for the debutant's performance.

"She has forward-play ability. She's got a lot of ability to score, to strike the ball really well, her passing range is excellent. And the thing we will help Maya with is maturity and concentration, all of those things.

"She has a lot of the tools, obviously, that's why we wanted her. But to get two goals, you don't expect that. Both finishes were excellent, they were really cultured and you already know this, she'll be a key part of what we do moving forward.

"I thought that in lots of moments today she was really mature, really aggressive when she needed to be. And I think we're not always going to get goals from her but solid performances at the back, progression of the ball; we like the ball so to progress with the ball she has a massive skillset we can utilise."

Lucia Garcia also made her debut on the wing for United, as well as Nikita Parris who looked lively in her short cameo. Both will likely be key parts of the squad going forward.
