Leeds United could have a new number eight after a photo including Marc Roca was posted with the Spaniard sporting the number on his training kit. Leeds have not had a player use the number eight since Vurnon Anita did in the 2017/18 season.
Roca arrived from Bayern Munich following a two-year spell with the Bundesliga champions. The 25-year-old midfielder was rated highly by the Bavarian giants despite his lack of game time with the club last season and was a regular for La Liga side Espanyol before that, making over 120 appearances for the club.
It was an Instagram post from Junior Firpo that showed Roca wearing the number. The picture also featured Jack Harrison and Rodrigo as well as Firpo, who were all wearing their current squad numbers, which makes it highly likely that Roca will take the number eight next season.

The number is probably most synonymous with Rod Wallace from a Leeds point of view. Wallace played over 200 games for The Whites during the 90s and was part of the Leeds squad that were the last team to win the old First Division before the formation of the Premier League in 1992.
It is not a number the Spaniard has used before in his career at either Bayern or Espanyol and perhaps it provides a hint that he will be a key man in Jesse Marsch’s plans next season. He could also be a popular choice shirt choice for Leeds supporters, with the new home kit set to be revealed next week in time for the club’s first friendly against Brisbane Roar on July 14, to then go on sale to fans in August.
