Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi says his side put in a complete performance on Saturday as they beat Wolves 2-0 at Molineux in the Premier League.
First-half goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Wilfried Zaha - via the penalty spot - put the Eagles into a commanding lead which they then held onto expertly to keep a clean sheet despite late pressure from the hosts.
The victory - Palace’s third away from home this season following wins at Man City and Watford - temporarily lifts them into the top half of the league table as well as extending their unbeaten away run to five matches.
“It’s a very important win for us - a good result,” Guehi told football.london afterwards. “It was a good collective team performance, especially defensively and then obviously when the boys up front are taking their chances it helps.
“It’s good for us to keep the clean sheet at the back which is always important. It’s good confidence for the boys up front to get the goals too and hopefully we can keep this up.”
He added: “I think we always put pressure on ourselves to do well, regardless of who we are playing and regardless of the circumstances.
“Wolves have been doing very well at the moment so it’s very important for us and very good for us to get the win.”
Guehi took the captain’s armband for the match and led from the back throughout, helping guide his side through Palace’s best first half of the season before seeing them home in the second.
The centre-back was Eagles captain for the first time in last month’s 4-1 win over Watford at Vicarage Road and said he was proud to have been chosen as one of Patrick Vieira ’s leaders on the pitch.
“It’s a huge honour for me to be here and it’s not something the gaffer just gave to me like that,” added Guehi, who also skippers England’s Under-21s.
“I feel like the boys have really taken to me and the senior lads have allowed me to be captain as well. That comes from them as well - they’ve seen something in me.
“Like I said, I’m really proud. But overall, just a good team performance and just glad to get the win.”
Crystal Palace are back in Premier League action on Monday March 14 against Manchester City at Selhurst Park.
