Met Eireann has issued a number of weather warnings as dangerous Arctic air spreads over Ireland. Temperatures could plummet as low as -7C in parts of the country this week with the freezing blast bringing widespread ice and frost.

The national forecaster has described the conditions as “hazardous” and says they could last into mid-December. The severe cold weather could lead to treacherous driving conditions.

A national weather warning from Met Eireann reads: “Very cold into early next week as an Arctic airmass sets in, bringing sharp to severe frosts, and ice or black ice on roads and footpaths. Some showers of hail, sleet, and snow will occur. Potential for freezing fog too, especially this weekend.”
