Map reveals the most popular famous people linked to your town

Towns and cities across the country have been replaced by the names of some of their most famous people in a fun map.

It uses the most popular searches on Wikipedia to change the face of the country on the interactive illustration.

Traditional names on a map of the British Isles are linked to residents or people born or connected to that place, on The Pudding site.

The People Map of the UK website is based on data collected and processed from Wikipedia from July 2015 to May 2019.

Not surprisingly, the Queen is the most 'wikipedia'd person connected to London's upmarket Mayfair district, while Margaret Thatcher has the honour in Grantham, Lincolnshire, which was her birthplace.

Ed Sheeran is the most searched for person in Halifax, while it’s Winston Churchill with Aberdeen and Bristol.

The Bee Gees have the most searches for Manchester, with Taron Egerton - Elton John in the hit new Rocketman biopic - linked with Aberystwyth, where he lived in his teens.

Ozzy Osbourne when he opened the Midland Metro tram extension in Birmingham (Handout)

It's no shock to find The Beatles are tops for Liverpool, while Sir David Attenborough is linked to Leicester and Ozzy Osbourne to Birmingham.

The Pudding map states: “Person/city associations were based on the thousands of “People by city or town” pages on Wikipedia.

“The top person from each city was determined by using median pageviews (with a minimum of 1 year of traffic).

“We chose to include multiple occurrences for a single person because there is both no way to determine which is more accurate and people can “be from” multiple places.
