Manuel Lanzini set to be available for West Ham against Everton despite ‘very big scare’ in serious car crash

Manuel Lanzini is expected to be available to face Everton this weekend despite the West Ham man being involved in a serious car crash on Thursday.

The 29-year-old was returning to the West Ham training ground from international duty with Argentina when his chauffeur-driven Mercedes was involved in a crash on the A12, near the club’s Rush Green base.

Lanzini managed to walk away unscathed from what he described as a “very big scare” after being given the all-clear following medical checks.

In a message posted on his social media overnight, Lanzini said: “Hello people, I wanted to thank everyone for the messages of support and affection on this day, it did me a lot of good since it was a very big scare, but thank God, as far as the accident was, everything went well. Thank you very much.”

West Ham’s medical staff were expected to run through some precautionary checks ahead of training on Friday but, so long as the attacking midfielder feels mentally prepared, Lanzini is set to be in the squad for Sunday’s meeting with Everton.

The Argentine is suspended for Thursday’s visit of Lyon on the Europa League quarter-finals after picking up three yellow cards in the competition so far this season.

West Ham return from the international break looking to make history with another top six finish in the Premier League and a run to the final of the Europa League.

A tired defeat to London rivals Tottenham was not the ideal way to go into the break, but Aaron Cresswell feels the Hammers are ready and refreshed for the run-in.

“The international break most probably came at the right time for us,” Cresswell said. “There were a lot of games that we played.

“It was nice to not have a game for two weeks to rest a little bit and properly prepare for the matches to come.”
