Manuel Lanzini issues warning to Europa Conference league rivals after West Ham romp into last eight

Manuel Lanzini believes West Ham have the confidence to win the Europa Conference League.

The Argentine played the full 90 minutes as the Hammers eased the pressure on David Moyes with a 4-0 win over AEK Larnaca, ensuring their passage to the last eight 6-0 on aggregate.

After a one-sided second leg at London Stadium came in contrast to their issues domestically, Lanzini believes the Hammers can go all the way.

“Of course,” he said when asked whether West Ham can lift the trophy.

“The result was great. When you win, you get more confidence. We hope we can secure a few wins in the Premier League because it’s important for us.

“Now we go to the quarter-finals. We will see who we are going to get. We need to prepare for that. I think we have a very good team to continue in this competition.”

The 4-0 rout was completed when 18-year-old substitute Divin Mubama, who was born in 2004, flicked home smartly for his first senior goal.

“I’m literally over the moon to get my first professional goal, and to do it in front of the fans is an amazing feeling,” said Mubama.

“I only live like 15 minutes from here. I’ve got my whole family here and the feeling was unreal. I can’t describe it.”

He added: “Even last night I was mentally switched on. I didn’t know [I would play] but I kind of expected it. When I saw my name on the squad list I was just itching to come on. When I came on, there was no time to waste.

“Everyone talks about the development that this academy does, through the likes of Jermain Defoe, Michael Carrick and Joe Cole. For me to show the boys that it can be done feels good.”
