Mansfield District Council issues important £150 council tax rebate update

Mansfield District Council has issued an update to residents who haven't yet received their £150 council tax rebate. An online form is now available on the council's website to help those wanting to claim the payment.

So far the council has made 28,539 energy rebate payments via bank transfers to eligible households who pay their council tax by direct debit. However, it says it has not been able to pay some of those entitled to the rebate due to technical reasons - or where residents do not pay their council tax by direct debit.

These residents are being encouraged to complete the new online form to enable their claim to progress. The Government-funded one-off energy rebate payment is not means tested or repayable and is available regardless of whether or not a householder pays council tax. To be eligible for it, they must occupy a property in council tax bands A, B, C or D as their main home.

Councillor Craig Whitby, portfolio holder for finance, said: "We are pleased to be among councils who have managed to move forward and get thousands of these rebates out there to people in need but we know there are still other people who have yet to receive it. If you haven’t received your energy rebate payment yet - even if you are a direct debit customer - now is the time to apply for your payment via the form on the council's website."

The form can be found here and people will need their council tax reference and bank details. The option to have the Energy Rebate paid against your council tax bill is also available on the form.

If you are an existing direct debit payer and the online form does not allow you to complete it when you have entered your name and address, this may be because your payment is already being processed - the council says you should allow until May 31 before contacting the council by email at energyrebate@mansfield.gov.uk.

People needing help completing the online form, should ask a relative, a friend or support worker to assist them. More details about the scheme and eligibility for it can be found at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities website here.
